Tour Championship 2018 Live@ Start time, Golf, Tv Channel

The Top 30 in the FedExCup Playoffs 2018 standings comprise the field for the Tour Championship.Bryson DeChambeau, who won the first two of the four playoff events, is No. 1 in the standings. He is followed in the top five by Justin Rose, Tony Finau, Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas.

Tiger Woods and Tommy Fleetwood comprise one of the notable pairings for Round 1 of Tour Championship 2018 on Thursday, Sept. 20, in Georgia. Phil Mickelson is paired with Francesco Molinari.

Keegan Bradley is No. 6. Bradley defeated Rose in a playoff on Monday to win the BMW — the third postseason event. Sunday’s final round had been postponed because of weather. Bradley opened the BMW at No. 52.

Mickelson, 48, is No. 14 and Woods, 42, is No. 20. Rory McIlroy is 17th.

Patton Kizzire claimed the 30th spot. Jordan Spieth is on the outside looking in at No. 31.

TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Site: Atlanta

Course: East Lake GC. Yardage: 7,385. Par: 70.

Purse: $9 million. Winner’s share: $1,620,000.

Television: Thursday-Friday, 1-6 p.m. (Golf Channel); Saturday, 12:30-2:30 p.m. (Golf Channel), 2:30-6:30 (NBC); Sunday, Noon-1:30 p.m. Golf Channel), 1:30-6 p.m. (NBC).

Defending champion: Xander Schauffele.

FedEx Cup leader: Bryson DeChambeau.

Last tournament: Keegan Bradley won the BMW Championship.

Notes: This is the fourth and final playoff event for the FedEx Cup and the $10 million bonus. The top five seeds — Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson, Tony Finau and Justin Thomas — only have to win the tournament to capture the FedEx Cup. … Thomas will try to become the first player to win the FedEx Cup in consecutive years. …

Tiger Woods is the only player to win the FedEx Cup twice. Woods is in the Tour Championship for the first time since 2013. This is his first appearance in the Tour Championship without having won during the season. … Nine of the 30 players have not won this season. … Seventeen players from the 30-man field were in the Tour Championship last year. … Bill Haas (No. 25) in 2011 is the lowest seed to win the FedEx Cup. … Jordan Spieth missed qualifying for the Tour Championship for the first time. Spieth is the only American on the Ryder Cup team not at East Lake. … Europe has six Ryder Cup players at the Tour Championship. … This will be the last year of four FedEx Cup playoff events. There will be three events next year.

Tour Championship

The PGA Tour season comes to a close this week at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga., site of the Tour Championship, the end of the season-long race for the FedEx Cup. This year’s winner at East Lake will take home $1.62 million, while the FedEx Cup winner will win the $10 million prize.

While all 30 remaining players in the playoffs technically have a chance to win the FedEx Cup, those in the top five have the best opportunity, needing only to win the Tour Championship to also clinch the FedEx Cup. That means a win for Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Rose, Tony Finau, Dustin Johnson or Justin Thomas will also give them the cup.

These five also have varying mathematical chances of still winning the FedEx Cup without winning the Tour Championship. For Thomas, he can win it back-to-back with a win at East Lake, which would make him only the second player to win the cup twice, Tiger Woods being the only other player to do so. A win for any other of the top four would be their first FedEx Cup title.

At 20th in the standings, Woods’ chances of claiming his third FedEx Cup are slim, but there is a convoluted way he can get it done. For Woods to even give himself a chance would mean he’d be in contention once again as he continues to get closer to an 80th career victory, which is an exciting proposition for the season’s final event.

TV Schedule

The Golf Channel will carry live coverage on Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET, as well as Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. NBC will take over on the weekend following Golf Channel’s coverage.

2018 UCI Road World Championships

The 2018 UCI Road World Championships will take place in Innsbruck, Austria, and are set to be one of the hardest in recent years. As ever, there will be 12 gold medals and 10 rainbow jerseys on offer over the nine days of competition between September 23 and 30.

Kicking off the competition will be the women’s and men’s team time trials, which are set to be the last ridden by trade teams – at least for the foreseeable future. Team Sunweb dominated the competition last year, winning both the women’s and men’s events, and have again named strong teams for both events this year, with Ellen van Dijk and Tom Dumoulin set to headline their line-ups. Both of the courses for this competition will be considerably longer than what we saw in Norway.

After first taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1921 – where there was just one amateur race – the first professional world championship took place six years later at the Nürburgring, Germany, where Alfredo Binda led an Italian one-two-three to win the first of his three world titles. Jean Aerts of Belgium, meanwhile, took the honours in the amateur race which continued until 1995 after which it was replaced by an under-23 race.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) were slow to introduce any women’s events to the programme, but in 1958 Luxembourg rider Elsy Jacobs was popping the Champagne after becoming the first women’s world champion when she beat Tamara Novikova and Mariya Lukshina of the Soviet Union on the roads of Reims, France.

Over the years further races were added to the programme which now spans an eight-day period in mid-Sept, starting just seven days after the final grand tour of the season, the Vuelta a España.

The winner in each discipline – or disciplines – gets to wear the distinctive rainbow band jersey awarded to each world champion for the next 12 months while competing in that particular discipline, though not in the following year’s UCI Road World Championships.

Penn State vs Illinois

No. 10-ranked Penn State is a 28.5-point favorite against Illinois in the teams’ Big Ten opener. The line opened at 26.5 on Sunday and money on the Nittany Lions moved it by Monday afternoon.

The early over/under is 60, which might seem low. James Franklin’s team averaged 53 points per game in its non-conference slate, while Lovie Smith’s squad managed, on average, 28 points per contest.

WATCH ON TELEVISION

Network: FS1

Kickoff Time: 9 p.m., Friday

Play-By-Play: Justin Kutcher

Color: Petros Papadakus

Sideline: DeMarco Murray

This is the second-largest spread Penn State has been a part of in Big Ten play since Franklin’s 2014 arrival. The Nittany Lions were 31-point favorites against Rutgers last year and did not cover, beating the Scarlet Knights 35-6. Penn State also failed to cover against Nebraska in 2017, winning 56-44 as 27-point favorites.

Meanwhile, the Illini — who own a 4-22 record against Big Ten teams since 2015 — have actually been a solid bet as significant underdogs. Illinois has covered four out of five times in the last two years when underdogs by 20 or more points. The conference punching bag covered at Ohio State (-41) and at home against Wisconsin (-28.5).

Penn State kicks off against Illinois at 9 p.m. Friday. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.Penn State and Illinois have not played since the Nittany Lions’ 39-0 win over the Illini at Beaver Stadium in 2015. PSU leads the all-time series 18-5, and has won four of the last five games between the two programs. This will mark the first time Penn State has faced Illinois since Lovie Smith took over has Illini head coach in 2016.

The Nittany Lions have had 186 consecutive games televised nationally, with 306 of the last 308 contests being on TV. Penn State is tied with fellow Big Ten member Michigan for the most games televised since 1995 with 272 each.
